The Black Cathedral

The Black Cathedral is an ancient and mysterious structure, standing in the middle of a dense forest, untouched by the city of Dukesforest to the south-west, even though it borders it. the cathedral can be seen from practicaly anywhere in the city. But, even though its main tower dominates the horizon, it is largly ignored by the inhabitants.
The building has 4 towers: the main clocktower, with its impressive carrillion, two side towers and a heating tower/chimney. It has an entrance chambre at the base of the main tower, and a massive interior, consisting of a floor level with a high, vaulted ceiling, and 2 upper levels at each side of the hall, each with numerous rooms, most of which have not been opened. Holding these levels up are 4 rows of 10 columns, which reach up to the top of the cathedral, where they attach to flying buttresses. In the back of the church one can find the gigantic library, which also has multiple levels.

History
The cathedral's history is incredibly vague. Paintings from 1400 show that the tall dark structure was already present during the time when Dukesforest was founded, though no attempts seem to have been made to explore the site further and, incredibly, there are no records acknowledging its existance. The building's origins are therefore unknown.
During the middle of the 20th century, attempts were made by the city of Dukesforest to demolish the site, though the project was halted for unknown reasons.
Discovery
The cathedral was discovered by Tiberus and Karmal, who went on to purchase the ground on which it stands via questionable methods.
Purpose
It is unknown if the Cathedral is merely a place of worship or more, although certain facilities, such as the library, suggest that it served multiple purposes to its builders.
further structures & area's
The black Cathedral grounds also hold a few additional buildings, though it is unknown how many other structures there are. So far, these are known:
- the Gate of Manywhere - further on in the forest, to the north-west this magical portal lies.
- the Graveyard - in order to get to the Gate, one passes through here
- the Boathouse - a ruined building near the river, to the east of the cathedral.
- Entrance gate - a ruined gate that stands at the edge of the forest, near the Woodedge neighbourhood. Supposedly, this was the original entrance to the cathedral grounds.
- the road - a delapidated and largly overgrown road leading from the entrance gate towards the cathedral
