Dukesforest

Although Dukesforest is one of the less important cities of the Marshlands, it has a rich history and is a central city in the Vreakerz storyline, because north of it, in the duke's forests, lies the Black Cathedral.
History
Dukesforest started out as a small settlement south of the great duke's forest and just north of the river Tallen. Fueding lords and invading armies sparked the fortifying of the settlement into the hexagonal fortified city that still exists today. To the northeast of the city, a star shaped fortress with five towers was built for the duke, connected to the city via a bridge.
With the alliance of cities in 1400 there came an end to the lords and their battles, and Dukesforest flourished. Halfway through the 13th century, a new part outside of the fortified city was build, a walled city now known as the old-, book- and harbour quarters.
When in 1682 the Kingdom of the Marshland was founded, the alliance, to which Dukesforest belonged merged with the rest of the country, and Dukesforest became a provincial capital.
Recent events
- Mayor Rasmus has pledged to expand the millenium quarter northwards and along the river.
